John Harvey Stewart of Fayetteville, Arkansas passed away Friday, September 2, 2016 at the age of 85 at the Arkansas Veterans Home. The son of John Wiseman Stewart and Mary Alma (Manes) Stewart was born September 10, 1930 at Deer, Arkansas. John was a veteran of the US Air Force and US Army. In 1959, he received his Bachelor's Degree in Education from Arkansas Tech University and his Master's Degree from the University of Arkansas in 1962. John was an educator for over 30 years, teaching in Bergman, Valley Springs, Western Grove, St. Joe, Prairie Grove and Lincoln schools and was an elementary principal at the school districts of Farmington and Decatur. After retirement from education, he continued to work with DHS and as a recruiter for the National Guard until his health no longer permitted. John Harvey was a member of the First Baptist Church of Fayetteville and enjoyed genealogy research. He was an avid reader, particularly of history. He loved to take part in cemetery decoration at Nail and Crossroads and especially loved to visit with people. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, James H. Stewart, his brother, Harper Stewart and his son-in-law, Richard Damiani. John Harvey is survived by his wife of 58 years, Billie Stewart of Fayetteville; his son, Bobby Stewart of Fayetteville; his daughter, Mary Stewart Damiani of West Brandywine, PA; four grandchildren, Joseph, Michael, Nicholas and John Damiani all of West Brandywine, Pa.; many cousins, other relatives and friends who will mourn his passing. Services will be Friday, September 9, 2016 at 2 p.m. at Coffman Funeral Home Chapel in Jasper, Arkansas with David Faught officiating. Full military honors burial will follow at Crossroads Cemetery in Deer, Arkansas. Pallbearers will be family and friends. On-line condolences may be left at coffmanfh.com.
