Marie Tate Tye, 96, of Texarkana, died September 5, 2016, at Cornerstone Retirement Community. Mrs. Tye was born October 10, 1919, in Blevins, Arkansas. She was a retired teacher from the Texarkana, Arkansas, School System where she spent more than 30 years teaching 9th grade English. Among her many students were her six children. She was a member of the Miller County Retired Teachers' Association and past member of Delta Kappa Gamma sorority. After retirement, she worked for several years at Twice as Nice Fashions. Besides her love for family and teaching, Mrs. Tye loved church and music. She was pianist for Unity Missionary Baptist Church for more than 30 years. Later in life she sang in the choir and was a member of her beloved Sunday class, Willing Workers, at First Baptist Church, Moores Lane. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wade H. Tye, a daughter-in-law, Ann Tye, and a grandson, Chad Tye. Survivors include five sons and one daughter: Wayne Tye and wife, Susan, Jeanne Goesl and husband, Ladd, Paul Tye and wife, Beverly, William Tye and wife, Karen all of Texarkana; Charles Tye and wife, Janice of Fayetteville, Arkansas; Ronald Tye of San Diego, California. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. A private graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 10, at Friendship Cemetery in Columbia County, Arkansas, with Reverend Bruce Bennett officiating. Burial will be under the direction of East Funeral Home. A visitation will be held at East Funeral Home, Moores Lane, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Friday, September 9. The family would like to express its deepest gratitude to the nurses and staff at the Cornerstone Health Care facility for their devoted service.
