Jerry Leroy Wallis, 79, of Lowell, died Thursday, September 8, 2016 at Circle of Life Hospice in Springdale. He was born July 13, 1937 in Long Beach, Calif., to Ballard Franklin and Ruby Marie (Hampsten) Wallis. Jerry grew up in Cave Springs and was a veteran first serving with the Marine Corps and later retiring from the Navy. His service included two tours in Vietnam. He was the local Navy recruiter for five years and a Past Commander of the American Legion Post 274 in Cave Springs. He was very capable with woodworking and mechanical repairs. Jerry was a member of the Church of Christ. He is survived by his wife, Val (Zachary) Wallis whom he married June 11, 1959 in Springdale; two children, LaDawna Sperber of Springdale, Zack Wallis and wife Susan of Cave Springs; three granddaughters, Hayley Sperber, Hattie Wallis, Catherine Wallis; one brother, Jimmy Wallis and wife Thekla of Cave Springs and four in-laws, A.E. "Junior" Erwin, Dorothy Zachary, Leanell Shockley and Margie King. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, September 12, at Heritage Funeral Home Chapel. Burial with military honors will be at Bluff Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, online guestbook at www.heritageofnwa.com.
