Frankie Carl Butch Brogdon

Frankie Carl "Butch" Brogdon, resident of McCrory and lifelong resident of Woodruff County, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2016 at the Unity Health-White County Medical Center in Searcy. He was 68 years of age. Visitation will be Tuesday, Sept. 27 from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be Wednesday, Sept. 28 at 2 p.m. at the Thompson-Wilson McCrory Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in Fakes Cemetery. Butch, as everyone knew him, was born on Nov. 13, 1947 in Augusta, Ark. the son of Lloyd Carl "Sonny" and Ruby "Doll" Thompson Brogdon. He graduated from McCrory High School, where he held the pole vault and high jump record for many years. He then enrolled at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro on a track scholarship and graduated with a Bachelor of Science of Education Degree. Butch was an ROTC Graduate, involved with the National Guard in Augusta and served his country as a Lieutenant in the United States Army. He married the former Miss Cathy Moon on March 4, 1982 and was a member of Faith Missionary Baptist Church of McCrory where he had been a Sunday School Teacher as well as Treasurer. Butch was a third generation farmer that managed over 5,000 acres and worked closely with his son, Grant Brogdon and his life-long friend and business partner, Fletcher Lewis. His family was named the Woodruff County Farm Family of the Year in 1994. He served on the Woodruff County USDA ASC Committee and was featured in several agricultural publications including Delta Farm Press. Butch enjoyed mentoring and investing in several young men involved in agriculture, several which are serving as his pallbearers. When he wasn't in the field, he enjoyed jogging and bicycling, and in his younger years he enjoyed duck hunting. He had a tremendous love for his family especially his grandchildren. Butch is preceded in death by his parents, Sonny and Doll Brogdon; his step-mother, Louise Brogdon; one sister, Ann Whitlow; one daughter-in-law, Schree Brogdon; and one granddaughter, Lily Elyse Brogdon. Butch is survived by his wife, Cathy Brogdon of McCrory, Ark.; two sons, Todd Haynes Brogdon and wife Jessica of Little Rock, Ark., Grant Thompson Brogdon and wife Shakonna of Heber Springs, Ark.; one sister, Mona Chilcutt and husband Charles of Dexter, Mo.; one step-brother, Chris Norwood and wife Renee of Little Rock, Ark.; one step-sister, Gala Norwood of Little Rock, Ark.; five grandchildren, Rebecca Brogdon, Ben Brogdon, Mary-Fran Brogdon, Caeden Douglass and Kielan Douglass. Active pallbearers will be Matt Cain, Brant Burkett, Brad Burkett, Bill Rushing, Chris Rayner, Albert Neal, Jared Wood and Logan Briley. Memorials may be sent in memory of Butch to the Faith Missionary Baptist Church of McCrory.
