Benjamin Evan Prothro, born 16 June 1925 in Mt Vernon, Ark., died Tuesday, 4 April 2017 in CHI St Vincent's Hospital in Little Rock, following a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. He was a lifelong Christian and member of the Allen Chapel Free Will Baptist Church in Batesville, Ark. He was 91 years old. Ben served his country as a NAVY Fire Controlman and Electrical Engineer during WWII and the Korean War and retired in 1980 from Civil Service as Deputy Director of the Transportation & Engineering Agency, Ft Eustis, VA before relocating to Batesville, Ark. Ben was the past President of the Batesville Chapters of AARP and Cushman School Alumni (Class of 1943), and a member of NARFE, the Full Gospel Businessmen's Association and other Community Service Organizations. Ben raised 5 children and enjoyed 6 grandchildren during his lifetime. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Margaret Ann Prothro and her 2 daughters: Beth Crouch of Shirley, Ark. - mother of grandson, Andrew Shouse, of San Diego, CA and granddaughter, Molly Shouse, of Conway, Ark.; Diana Pointer - mother of granddaughter, Willow, of Cabot, Ark. Ben also has 3 children and enjoys 3 grandchildren from his previous marriage to Jeanne Roma of Newport News, VA: son, Dennis Prothro, of Baltimore, MD, father of grandson, Daniel, of Fairfax, VA and granddaughter, Lily, of Towson, MD; son, Thomas Prothro, of Oceanside, CA; and daughter, Susan Dowling, of Chesterfield, VA, mother of granddaughter, Claire, who attends UVA in Charlottesville, VA. The family will receive relatives and friends from 3-5 p.m., Saturday, April 8th, at Roller-Crouch Funeral Home at 510 E. College Avenue, Batesville, AR 72501. Services will be 2:30 p.m., Sunday, April 9th, at Allen Chapel Free Will Baptist Church at 629 Allen Chapel Road, Batesville AR 72501 followed by a reception at the Family Life Center across from the church.
