Lt. Col. Thomas Edward Tune, 69, of Jacksonville, Ark. passed away April 7, 2017. He was born Nov. 12, 1947 in Louisville, Ky. to Edward and Lula (Harrington) Tune. Thomas graduated from Speedway High School, Speedway, Ind. in 1966. After graduating Ball State University, Muncie, Ind., he then graduated from the Indiana University School of Dentistry in 1974. He married Jolene Griffis of Evansville, Ind. on May 11, 1974. He served in the United States Air Force for 28 years from 1974 to 2002. Following retirement, he continued his dentistry at the LRAFB clinic until his death. Over the years, he had a profound and positive influence on many of those he served with and he was loved and admired by all. Thomas was a devoted, loving son, husband and father. He had a special place in his heart for animals and enjoyed collecting antique cars, clocks, and radios. He was often seen visiting antique car shows. Thomas is survived by his wife of 43 years, Jolene Tune; their two sons, Steven Tune and Jason Tune; his mother, Lula Tune; and his brother Joel (wife Theresa) Tune. He is also survived by aunts, uncles, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews; and long time family friend, Darrell Null. He was preceded in death by his father, the late Edward T. Tune. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 13th at Smith Sherwood Funeral Home. Services will be held on Friday, April 14th at Smith Sherwood Funeral Home at 11 AM with interment to follow at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery at 1 p.m. with full military honors. There will be a reception at the Smith Sherwood Funeral Home following the interment and all are welcome.
