Mora Lu Spence-Duke

Mora Lu Lane Spence-Duke, 93, of Ward died Tuesday, April 18, 2017. She was born December 16, 1923 in Almyra to the late Ernest Mims Lane and Emma McRee Lane. Mrs. Spence-Duke was a member of Sylvania Evangelical Presbyterian Church where she was a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher, a member of the Women of the Church Ministry and a church officer. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved being surrounded by family and singing Gospel music. While married to W.G. "Coot" Spence, they owned and operated a family dairy farm in the Sylvania community. Mrs. Spence-Duke worked as an aid at Cabot Elementary school and operated a grocery store. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Spence-Duke was preceded in death by her two husbands, W.G. "Coot" Spence and Guy Duke; her son, Ronny Spence; great granddaughter, Courtney Dixon and siblings, Thomas Lane, Arnett Lane, Charles Duke Lane, Bobby Lane, Ruth Bass, Marguerite Allison and Imogene Spence. Mrs. Spence-Duke is survived by her children, Donald Spence (Donna), James Lynn Spence (Myra), Shelba Dixon (Dearl) and Teena Paintin (Pat); her step-children, Jerry Duke, Reitha Roberts, Linda Dannenmueller, Carolyn Williams and Nelda Fowler; grandchildren, Anita Abshure, Steve Dixon, Renee Calhoon, Tamara McLoughlin, Melody Spence, Ryan Spence, Kristy Spence, Kelly Spence, Chauncey Spence, Chad Gable, Lauren Standridge and Erica Darden as well as numerous great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at Moore's Cabot Funeral Home (501) 843-5816. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Sylvania Evangelical Presbyterian Church with Dr. James Pitts officiating. Burial will follow at Sylvania Cemetery.
