George Eugene Grimes, 57, of Bentonville, Arkansas passed away peacefully, Saturday, August 12, 2017 at Mercy Hospital in Rogers, Ark. He was born December 28, 1959 in Denver, Colorado to James Edward Grimes and Dixie Hynds Grimes. George was raised on a poultry farm in Gentry, Arkansas where he learned patience, the value of hard work, and that nothing in life comes easy. He played high school football and passed that love on to his son, Jason and was his son's biggest fan. As a young father, he began his career first as an electrician, then as a Walmart store manager where at the age of 30 he was injured and permanently paralyzed. He was a positive and incredibly strong willed individual. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He had a strong attention to detail, especially in maintaining a meticulously clean home. His constant companion, a handi-vac, was always close by, which he had retrofitted to his own high standard. He loved to share long stories and talk with others about everything from the environment to politics to sci-fi. He always loved to help others anyway he could and would even suggest to you how to cook your own recipe "the right way." Some of George's enjoyments were spent tinkering in the garage, as he had an amazing ability to fix almost anything while listening to classic rock and books on tape, and sporting his faithful side kick, Rhett, in his lap. He was always the "go-to" guy when something needed fixing. Best of all, he gave the most awesome wheelchair rides for his grandchildren. George treated everyone he met with kindness and respect. His genuineness and compassion were constantly on display. Even while enduring a great deal of chronic pain, he truly was an inspiration of character to many and was one of the hardest working people you ever met. After facing many obstacles and challenges in his life with so much dignity and humility, we are proud to be able to say goodbye to a one-of-a-kind man who meant so much to us. George can now walk away from this life pain-free and standing tall. George was preceded in death by his father, James Grimes. He is survived by his devoted wife and high school sweetheart of 39 years, Katherine Fiser Grimes; his two beloved children, Ashley Grimes (Cory) of Rogers, and Jason Grimes (Amy) of Bentonville and their three children, Aiden, Landon, and Charlotte. He is also survived by his mother, Dixie Grimes and four brothers, Richard (Angelica) and Sam (Elda) of Gentry, Ark., Art (Terri) of Westminster, Calif., and John (Jeanie) of Jacksonville, Fla., and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, August 17, 2017 at Stockdale-Moody Funeral Services in Rogers. A celebration of George's life will be at 2 p.m., Friday, August 18, 2017 at Bentonville Church of Christ. Burial will follow at Pinnacle Memorial Gardens in Rogers, Ark.
