William W. "Bill" Humphries Jr. , 86 of Lowell passed away Saturday, Aug. 19, 2017 at Circle of Life Hospice in Springdale. He was born Sept. 13, 1930 in West Plains, Mo., the son of William and Vera Humphries. He lived in several towns in Arkansas while growing up but called Camden, Ark., home. He graduated from Camden High School. He attended Henderson State Teachers College in Arkadelphia, Ark. He spent the next three years serving honorably in the United States Air Force. After discharge, he attended the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville and was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. Bill married Lou Vern Backus of Springdale in 1954. He was employed by Chevron Oil for over 35 years. He worked in refineries in Richmond, Calif., and Pascagoula, Miss. He moved to Lowell, Ark., in 1995. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Springdale. Bill is preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Kay McGray and one son, Robert Humphries. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lou Vern Humphries; one son, William W. Humphries, III and his wife Bonnie; two granddaughters, Kay Firmin and Holly Hebert and four great grandchildren, Victoria and Aaron Hebert and Madison and Lane Fimin all of Louisiana. Memorial services for Bill will be Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Sisco Funeral Chapel of Springdale with Pastor Bob Ryan officiating. A gathering of friends will take place on Monday from 4-6 p.m. at the funeral home.
