Sarah LaVerne Springer Davis was born January 26, 1925 in Sheridan, Arkansas. Her parents were Vernon Oliver (V.O.) and Esma Lucille Hamilton Springer. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Sheridan, and formerly a member of Clarksdale Baptist Church, Clarksdale, Miss. Mrs. Davis entered the Gates of Glory to meet her Saviour Jesus Christ on Thursday, August 24, 2017. In this life her greatest love was for the Lord, her family, especially her grandchildren, great grandchildren, her friends in the Sunshine Class, FBC, and all those she met along the way. She held in high regard, and prayed for, all the Pastors and church leaders she encountered in life. She prayed without ceasing; her prayer list was long. She loved all growing things; flowers, unusual plants, trees and animals of God's creation. She never stopped learning and had a hunger for all things Christ centered. She was patient, she was kind, she forgave all wrongs. Her gifts included unconditional love, generosity, teaching, painting, writing, letter writing, Bible teaching, encouragement, and singing. She put her whole heart in writing loving notes to her class members, as well as members of FBC. She was a lady! Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Bill and Gayle Springer, husband Toyee G. Davis and her son-in-law, Ken Bowling. She was a member of Sheridan's Class of 1942. She attended Hendrix College and Texas State College for Women. Toyee Glenn Davis became her husband April 27, 1946 and she retired from Arkansas Blue Cross Blue Shield in 1985. She worked at Springer's Florist in Sheridan and Farmers Home Administration. Survivors include son, Jeffrey Davis and wife Voncille of Benton; daughter, Sarah Davis Bowling of Sheridan; sister, Ann Williams Fleming of East End; grandchildren, Virginia (Wallace) Wyeth, Jeff Davis Jr., Jennifer (Patrick) Lunsford, Jason Davis, Brian (Meridith) Bowling; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Thelma Moore and husband John of De Queen, Dottie Norwood of Plano, Texas, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. She especially loved many who cared for her over the years, and especially the last few months: Randy Springer, Annette Swain, Ann Fleming, Voncille Davis, Jennifer Lunsford, Virginia Wyeth, and Cassie Hatch. She loved and admired all the CNAs and Nurses at Sheridan Rehab and Nursing who lovingly cared for her. She would tell them that she did not want them working so hard for her, and that they needed to rest! She always put other people first. Memorial services will be 3 p.m. Sunday, August 27, 2017 at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Sam Adkins and Dr. Ed Simpson officiating. Burial will follow at Sheridan Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday prior to the service from 2 p.m. until service time. Pallbearers are Randy Springer, Jeff Davis, Jr., Brian Bowling, Wallace Wyeth, Patrick Lunsford, and Ken Springer. Honorary pallbearers are Micah Lunsford, Hunter Lunsford and John Williams. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 1201 South Rock, Sheridan, Arkansas 72150 or Samaritan's Purse.
