Betty Lee Baker

Betty Lee "Bet" Baker, 92, passed away Thursday, Dec. 14, 2017. She was born March 14, 1925, in San Antonio, Texas, to the late Robert and Emma Morris. After graduating high school, Bet attended Sullins College in Virginia. In 1944, she married her soulmate, Robert "Bob" Baker Sr., just before he left to fly B-24s over Europe during WWII. In their golden years, she and Bob traveled the USA and Europe with his Dixieland Jazz Band, Hot Cotton. During these travels, Bet was able to meet many wonderful people, many of whom became dearly treasured lifelong friends. Bet was always the life of the party and never missed an opportunity to enjoy life to the fullest. Bet and her husband lived in Bartlett, Tenn., before retiring to Heber Springs forty years ago. She was a valued member of the Cleburne County area, where she had volunteered with many different organizations. Bet was most proud of the time she was able to spend with the Humane Society and Margie's Haven House. She also was an active member of the Seven Springs Home Extension Club, whose fellow members she deeply loved. Bet was the proud mother to a daughter, Susan; a son, Robert Jr.; grandmother of four: Rik, Bryan, Laura, and Shaneen; and great-grandmother to four: Peyton, Damon, Piper, and Parker. Bet was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bob, in 2006. She is survived by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many friends. A memorial service honoring Bet's life will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2017, in the Chapel of Heber Springs Funeral Home, 1199 Wilburn Road, Heber Springs, Ark., 72543. www.heberspringsfuneralhome.com.
