John Victor Barrett, 81, of Cicero, N.Y. died peacefully surrounded by family Friday, February 3, 2017 at a care facility in Bentonville, Arkansas. He was born February 20, 1935 in North Tonawanda, N.Y. to James and Katie (Brown) Barrett. As his father suffered from blindness, John started working at an early age to help provide for the family. This helped to define both his strong work ethic and frugality. He had the rare talent to make or fix almost anything, whether it be a car, washing machine, home or airplane. After serving in the Air Force, this led him to a career as a field engineer for GE and later Honeywell, where he troubleshot and fixed early mainframe computers. John enjoyed spending time with family, tinkering, building things, aviation, downhill skiing, the Buffalo Bills, and always had trouble passing up a good deal. Helping others was a cornerstone of his life, he was always happy to lend a hand however he could. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother James. John is survived by his wife, Dauryne (Haas) Barrett; son, Patrick Barrett (Stephanie); and grandchildren, Colin and Piper, of Bentonville, Arkansas. A memorial service will be April 29th in Syracuse, N.Y. For further information contact johnbarrettmemorial@gmail.com. Condolences: www.eptingfuneralhome.webs.com.
