LaVonne W. Stenberg, 93, passed away at her apartment in Heber Springs, Ark., on Feb. 3, 2017. Lyndell LaVonne Margaret Mary Wilson was born on Aug. 28, 1923, to James Lindell Wilson and Thelma Onita Gibson Wilson in Kansas City, Mo. She was baptized on Easter Sunday, 1931 and made a solemn profession of faith in the Roman Catholic Church on Sept. 30, 1973. She was married to Charles Scott, and after Mr. Scott passed away she married Charles Russell Stenberg. During her marriages she worked as a secretary and loved spending time in Mexico. She moved to Heber Springs with Mr. Stenberg in 1991 where she lived with him until his death in August 2001. Her companion in her later years was Floyd R. "Red" Porterfield; they worked together to revitalize the Anderson House Inn in downtown Heber Springs until Mr. Porterfield's death in 2013. LaVonne Wilson Stenberg loved life, her home, travelling, art, flowers, her faith, and the Arkansas Razorbacks. She was a beautiful, strong, loving Southern woman whose spirit will be missed by many, many friends. Rosary will be Wednesday, Feb. 8 at 6:30 p.m., followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 9, both at St. Albert's Catholic Church in Heber Springs. www.olmstead.cc.
