James Augustus "Jim" Jowers, Jr.

JAMES AUGUSTUS "JIM" JOWERS, JR., 71, of Little Rock, died Feb. 11, 2017 after an arduous seventeen year battle with multiple myeloma. Jim was born March 3, 1945 and grew up in Newport. He was a 1963 graduate of Newport High School and the University of Arkansas in 1967, pledging Kappa Sigma fraternity. Jim was drafted and served two years in the U.S. Army as a Sergeant. He began his business career in Little Rock as an insurance adjuster with Travelers for ten years, followed by thirty-seven years with Rebsamen Insurance (Regions) as a VP of Commercial Lines. Jim's business acumen translated into lifelong friendships, solidified through a love of golf, cards and music. Jim was a member of First Baptist Church, actively involved in the Sanctuary choir and orchestra, and was a member of Maumelle Country Club for forty-three years. Jim loved his son, Jason, and the two spent many a summer on road trips to Busch Stadium for St. Louis Cardinals baseball games. Jason was his pride and joy. His special granddaughter, Nadia, was his delight and she affectionately called him "Bobo." They spent time together playing dolls, fishing, seeing the sights around Little Rock and enjoying each other's company. Jim also enjoyed travels out West with his cousin, David Hare, visiting all the places he wanted to see; cruises to Alaska, the Bahamas and the Mediterranean with his wife, Sissy; a trip with friends to Augusta National Golf Tournament, underscoring his love of the game; and weekends spent with lovely friends at Brosh Farm and the lake. He remained a loyal Razorback fan and supporter his entire life. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James Augustus "Gus" Jowers and Eleanor Jowers. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Sissy Polk Jowers; son, Jason and fiancée, Melissa Bradshaw, and special granddaughter, Nadia, all of Vilonia; his sister, Carol Walker of Heber Springs; and many nieces and nephews. The family expresses gratitude to UAMS Doctors Barlogia and VanRhee and staff for their commitment to research and exemplary patient care. The UAMS Infusion Clinic was Jim's lifeline and their compassionate and professional care will always be remembered. Visitation will be this evening, Monday, Feb.13 from 4-6 p.m. at Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct. (NW corner I-630 and Barrow Rd.). Burial will be Tuesday, Feb. 14 at 11 a.m. at Roselawn Memorial Park. All are welcome. A memorial services will follow the burial at 12 p.m. at the funeral home, officiated by Dr. John B. Wright.
