Calvin Dal "Sonny" Covington

Calvin Dal "Sonny" Covington, 77, of Augusta was called home to be with the Lord Wednesday, February 15, 2017. He was born December 16, 1939 in Augusta to the late Rance and Hazel Brown Covington. Sonny was an avid duck and 'coon hunter and enjoyed the beauty and work ethic of mules and horses. His lifelong work as a building contractor and concrete finisher gave him great satisfaction. He gained respect and notoriety from fellow citizens of Augusta as a former member of the Woodruff County Sheriff's Department. Through his work he showed his passion for his neighbor by leaving very little in his hometown untouched by his craft. Construction projects are not all that have been changed by Sonny. He leaves behind to cherish his memory as "Boppa" two daughters; Andra Boren (Mike) and Beth Padgett (Dana); two sons, Calvin D. Covington Jr. (Donna) and Ranzy Covington (Tana); six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and one dog Rusty. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Carlos, a grandson, Larry, a beloved son in law, Chris Wood, and his wife of 56 years Mary McGhee Covington. Visitation will be Friday, February 17 at the Powell Funeral Home in Bald Knob from 6 to 8 p.m. A graveside service will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Augusta Memorial Park.
