Elsie Mae Marecek of Sherwood transitioned after ONE HUNDRED years of this life on February 16, 2017. Elsie Mae was born April 13, 1916 in North Little Rock to Elsie Belle Williams and L.A. Williams. She was the fifth child of 12 children in this Williams family. She is preceded in death by her parents, her eleven siblings and the love of her life, Roman S. Marecek. She and Roman married in 1935 and enjoyed 68 years of blessed marriage until Roman died in 2003. She was a most loving and dedicated wife, and an ideal mother who raised two sons with a firm but compassionate hand and was always ready, willing and able to provide emotional support and love whenever needed. She deeply loved and supported her grandchildren, step-grandchildren and great grandchildren as well. Elsie Mae became a resident at Sherwood Nursing Home in 2014 at the age of 98. She was known as Ms. Elsie, remained very active, feisty and quite alert in spite of her age. She constantly moved about in her wheelchair and rarely remained in her room. Most visitors to the nursing home would see her in the foyer, at the nursing station or in the hallways during the day and occasionally through the night. She was quite content and happy at the home and maintained a remarkably independent spirit until the very end of her long life. She is survived by her two sons, Richard Marecek and wife Nancy of Stow, Ohio and Dr. Raymond Marecek of Sherwood; grandson, Roman Marecek (Mars) of Kensington, California; granddaughters, Leigh Marz of Kensington, California, Lisa Takamiya of Tucson, Arizona, Jennifer Johnson and Julia Pearl, both of Phoenix, Arizona; four step-grandchildren, Michael Detrick of Wichita Falls, Texas, Daniel Detrick and Amy Allibon, both of Ft. Worth, Texas and Emily Detrick of Austin, Texas. She is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren. Special thanks to Elsie's niece, Jo Ann White, who was by her side religiously, several times a week for the past six years and much gratitude to a wonderful caregiver, Cathy Geitgey, who provided exemplary comfort, aid and support to Elsie (Mamaw) for many years. Visitation will be Sunday, February 19, 6 to 7 p.m. followed by a Rosary at Smith-North Little Rock Funeral Home. Funeral will be Monday, February 20th at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in North Little Rock. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery next to her loving husband, Roman. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials sacred to the memory of Ms. Elsie be sent to Kindred Hospice, 10800 Financial Centre, Suite 380, Little Rock, Ark. 72211.
