Howard Quittner

Howard Quittner, age 95, born Feb. 1, 1922 in New York City, passed in his sleep Feb. 12, 2017, at his son's home in San Marcos, Texas. He served as a physician in the Navy during WWII and remained in the reserves and active service until the close of the Korean War, rising to the rank of Commander. He became a Professor of Pathology teaching at the University of Arkansas Medical School in Little Rock, Tulane University in New Orleans, and Marshall University in Huntington W. Va. where he also served, for a short time, as chief of staff for the Veterans Hospital connected to the medical school. Carolyn, his wife of more than 50 years passed in Dec. 2016. They raised five boys, Alan, Andy, Kelly, Harlan and Ian, survived by Alan Stewart of Little Rock, Arkansas, Andy Quittner of San Marcos, Texas, and Ian Quittner of Biltmore Lake, N.C. He is also survived by his seven grandchildren: Ethan Quittner, Hannah Quittner, Austin Stewart, Lane Stewart, Matthew Stewart, Marin Stewart and Laura Stewart. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Quittner and Stewart endowed scholarship in the health professions at the University of Arkansas College for Medical Sciences would be appreciated.
