Michael Yaksic

Michael Yaksic was born on Aug., 18, 1942 in Slovan, Penn., to the late George and Thelma Yaksic. After high school, Mike joined the Navy in 1959 and was a plank holder (first crew) of the historic USS Enterprise, the first nuclear powered aircraft carrier. After his enlistment, he served a short term as a police officer in Rittman, Ohio. He visited Arkansas on a business trip and fell in love with the Natural State. He and his family moved to Camden, Ark., in 1979 to work at General Dynamics as an Engineer. An accomplished musician and banjo player, he formed the family band, "The Sundowners", in the mid-eighties and extensively toured southern Arkansas, playing various venues, including former Governor Clinton's rallies. Mike has also resided in Mena, Oppelo and finally Cabot and was a member of Crossroads Ministry Church in Perryville. Mike was an old-world gentleman who loved his country, the outdoors, music, and family. He passed at 74 on Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2017 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Little Rock. He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Linda. His daughter Beth Sanders (Craig), sons Michael (Janet) and Matthew (Margaret). Grandchildren Zachary (Britany), Matthew, Lauren and Adam. Great-grandchildren Lainey and Lacy. Siblings Dee Mooriadian, Dorothy Jancart (Richard), Ted (Jane) and David Yaksic. He was preceded by his siblings Georgette Grill and Nick Yaksic.
