Marion Holleman Starnes

Marion Holleman Starnes, 87, one of two children of William Thurman and Nina Frizzell Holleman, was born on December 5, 1929 in the Red Hill community near Chidester and died peacefully at her home on January 12, 2017. She was married to the late Jack C. Starnes for 55 years until his passing in 2009. Marion was a housewife, mother and United Sates Post Office employee. Her training at Arkansas Business School preceded marriage to Jack. She was very active in her daughter's school and church where she was president of PTA and United Methodist Women. She enjoyed sewing and her daughters have fond memories of the matching dresses that were sewed for the three of them. She enjoyed working at the family's cafe/bait shop and boat dock "Starnes Landing", which was a popular gathering place for sportsmen on the lower end of White Oak Lake. Marion was homebound for the last several years of her life. The family is forever grateful to her live-in caregiver Mary Massalay and her cousin Emma Foreman for the faithful, loving care that allowed their mother to live out her final years in her own home. Gratitude also goes to Richard Robertson and Perry Jo Beaver, who answered many calls for assistance at the Starnes home over the years. In addition to her husband and parents, Marion was preceded in death by her brother, J.D. Holleman. She survived by Kathy Heinley (Paul Covert) of Little Rock and Kay York of Ashdown; grandchildren, Regan Ellis of Little Rock, Will York and Starnes York of Ashdown. Visitation will be Saturday from 5-7 p.m. at Proctor Funeral Home in Camden, Arkansas. A Graveside service will be Sunday, January 15, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Bluff City Cemetery at Bluff City, Arkansas. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be given to the Bluff City Cemetery Association, 610 North Calhoun 95, Camden, Ark. 71701, Rushing Memorial Methodist Church or a charity of your choice.
