Gladys Marie Spencer Harp, 76 of Springdale, died peacefully at home Jan. 13, 2017. She was born Jan. 3, 1941 in Geary, Okla., to Carl Spencer and Viola Mae Thrasher Spencer. She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Phillip Harp;her 3 children, Jacquetta Edwards, Phillip Harp Jr. and wife Valerie, Shari Devor and husband Terry; two sisters, Ethel Smith of Ulysses, Kansas and Patsy Harp of Springdale; nine grandchildren: Chandle Carpenter, Phillip Harp, III (Trey), Pamela Derwin, Peaches Smith, Chad Harp, Christy Devor, Travis Edwards, Melody Keesee, Hannah Harp and sixteen great grandchildren. The grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the highlight of her life. She's also survived by lots of nieces, nephews and close friends. The first 17 years of her married life were spent in Grant County in Ulysses, Kan. She helped with the candy striper program at the local hospital and she was a 4-H leader and cooking instructor. She was active in First Baptist Church of Ulysses, Kan. In 1973 she and her family moved to Springdale Arkansas to work the Family Farm. She was a member of First Baptist Church, now Cross Church, in Springdale Ark. One of her favorite things to do was help others. She was always about doing things as unto the Lord, meaning the only ones who knew were God, herself and the people she did it for. Gladys loved to help older people. She received joy by doing things for them. For a long time there was a special group of ladies at First Baptist that she made birthday cakes for and special treats on different holidays. These ladies were Prayer Warriors and she loved to hear them pray. Gladys' favorite day of the week was Tuesday, when she attended an art class at Lucille Clay's home. The members of that class all became as close as family and shared many sorrows and joys together. Funeral services will be at Sisco Funeral Chapel in Springdale on Monday, Jan. 16, 2017 at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in Sonora Cemetery.
