Merlin Wiley, 87, of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, January 18, 2017. He was born on July 5, 1929, in Leola, to Roy and Cumie Phillips Wiley. He received his education from Carthage High School. Mr. Wiley served in the United States Navy. He had worked for International Paper for 47 years before retiring as a general mechanic and welder. He was a member of Hardin Baptist Church. He was an avid collector of coins, especially quarters. He enjoyed his daily walks along the highway, where he would stop and talk to friends and neighbors. He was always ready to help anyone in need. He enjoyed helping all the stray animals, whether feeding them or finding them homes. He was a loving husband and father, who loved his family dearly and will be missed by all. He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Helen Durham Wiley; his parents; a brother, John L. Wiley; sisters, Opal Orr, Vera Phillips, Corine Smith and Faye David. Survivors include a daughter, Rita Sewall of Pine Bluff; a son, George Wiley (Lisa) of White Hall; grandchildren, Amy Pelzel (Larry) of Denton, Texas, Nikki Sewall (Edward) of Shalimar, Florida, Brandon Wiley of Texarkana, Texas, and Brittany Wiley of Little Rock; great-grandchildren, Gage Wiley, Kye Wiley, Sydney Cox, and Payton Pelzel. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 21, 2017, at Hardin Baptist Church in the Hardin Community with Reverend Johnny Taylor officiating. Burial will be at Brush Creek Cemetery located in Grant County, Arkansas. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials take the form of contributions to Hardin Baptist Church Building Fund, 300 Todd Lynn Drive, White Hall, Arkansas 71602.
