Mary Ella Garrett Halliday, 88, of Gurdon, died Saturday. She was born Aug. 3, 1928 in Fayetteville, the daughter of the late Smith Kelleum and Georgia Witt Garrett. Mary taught home economics at Gurdon High School for many years and enjoyed getting ready for homecoming activities as well. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Gurdon. Mary enjoyed sewing, playing cards, reading and working with antiques in her free time. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dickey Halliday, Sr., and her son in law, Larry Snodgrass. Surviving sons, Dickey (Elaine) Halliday Jr. and Dan (Debbie) Halliday both of Gurdon, and Phillip (Katye) Halliday of Curtis, and one daughter, Kay Snodgrass of Pearcy, seven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and Two great-grandchildren. Services 2 p.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church in Gurdon. Visitation Tuesday 1 p.m. until service time at the church. Interment in Rose Hedge Cemetery. Memorials to First United Methodist Church, Gurdon Ark. Final arrangements are entrusted to The Welch Funeral Home of Arkadelphia. Guestbook @ www.welchfh.net.
