Mildred Polyene Stevens

Mildred Polyene Mendenhall Underwood Stevens, 103, of Bella Vista, Arkansas died January 21, 2017. Born to the late Charles and Mary Mendenhall, August 10, 1913 in Newport Township, Ohio. She grew up in Seminole, OK where she graduated high school in 1929. She attended business college in St. Louis, worked across the world from Washington, DC to Japan. Mildred met and married OA Underwood in 1950. Together they lived and worked in France, Arkansas, California, Oklahoma, Cincinnati and Missouri. They traveled all over the world and United States. She worked for the War Department, reconstruction work in Japan, Aircraft Company in California, and for the State of OK Medical Department until she retired in 1986. Mildred was an avid Cincinnati Red and Bengal fan and enjoyed college ball teams. She followed every aspect of politics and spent her last few years listening to conservative talk radio. While in her final years in Cincinnati she enjoyed her time with the Delhi Community Senior. Preceded in death by her closest sister, Helen Crimmel. Left to cherish her memories are her son, Ralph Vic (Janet) Underwood; grandchildren, Gabriel, Abigail, Timothy, Brittany, Matthew and Kara; great-grandchildren, Jordan, Dylan, Allie, Brooks, Aiden and Liam; many nephews and nieces. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, January 28th at Bella Vista Funeral Home Chapel, 2258 Forest Hills Blvd., Bella Vista, Arkansas. She will rest in peace in Shawnee, Okla. next to her mother. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. On-line condolences may be made at www.funeralmation.com.
