Reverend Lawrence Albert Wells, 61, of Pine Bluff, Ark. affectionately known as Lanky and Lonnie, was born on August 27, 1955 to the late Mary Jane Gee and Lawrence Alvin Wells. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age under the leadership of Reverend E.D. Doyle at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Little Rock, Arkansas. His early education began in the Little Rock School District at Stephens Elementary School, Hall High School and Central High School. Lanky attended Louisiana Tech University from 1973 through 1977 and later completed his undergraduate degree at Northwestern State University. He obtained his Master's degree in Criminal Justice from Grambling State University. He traveled domestically to play AAU basketball and internationally in Italy, France and Mexico. Lanky was inducted into the Louisiana Basketball Hall of Fame in 2007. Lanky was married to Sandra Joyce Gill Wells and to this union, three children were born. He enlisted into the United States Army in 1983 and was honorably discharged in 1989.Lanky began his career with the United States Postal Service as a Letter Sorter Machine Operator, and retired as a Customer Service Manager. Lanky accepted his call to preach and share the word of God in November 2009. On Friday, January 20, 2017 at 1:55am, God stopped the clock and Lanky swiftly changed from time to eternity. His daughter JaMary, parents, step-father Robert Brooks and Brother, Billy Wells all preceded him in death. He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Sandra J. Wells, his children: Brennan (Alysia), Lewcious, and Keenan. Sisters: Norma Young, Susie Craig, Ruth Williams, Latoria Brooks and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral service will be held 10 a.m., Saturday, January 28, 2017 at St. Paul Baptist Church by Reverend Steven E. King. Interment will be in Gill Family Cemetery, Marvell, Ark. by Brown Funeral Home of Pine Bluff. Visitation will be Friday, 5-7 p.m., at St. Paul Church in Pine Bluff, Ark.
