Lila Jean Viner, age 85, of Pottsville, Arkansas, formerly of Benton, Arkansas, passed away Sunday, January 29, 2017. She was born January 8, 1932 in Pottsville to the late Franklin Bonner Oates and Forrest O'Daniel Oates. Lila graduated from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville with her teaching degree. She taught Home Economics in Danville, Arkansas and then at Mount Saint Mary's Academy in Little Rock. She was a member of the Frist Presbyterian Church in Benton where she was active in many areas. She was also a member of the Tuesday Club, Medical Auxiliary, 4-H House, The Art Guild, and CJCHON, of which, she was a founding member. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Donald L. Viner. Survivors include one son, Paul Marshall Viner and his wife Lori Butterworth Viner of Benton; one daughter, Melissa Viner Holden of Benton; five grandchildren, Brooke Viner Freeman and husband Jared, Lindi Viner, Austin Viner, Tanner Mitchell Holden, and Morgan Rose Holden; two great-grandsons, Abel Lee Freeman and Taylan Anthony Zaunbrecher; two brothers, William O. Oates and his wife Evelyn Sekavec Oates of Albertville, Alabama and David Bonner Oates and his wife Marium Guppy Oates of Pottsville; numerous nieces and nephews; other relatives, and friends. The family would like to thank two of Lila's great nieces, Isabella and Emma Wheeler, for the tender care they gave to her during her illness. Mrs. Viner's funeral service is scheduled for 1 p.m., Thursday, February 2nd, 2017 in the chapel of Roller-Ballard Funeral Home in Benton (501-315-4047) with Pastor Howard Wheeler officiating. Interment will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Alexander, Ark. Per family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, February 1st, 2017 at the funeral home.
