Robert Edward Jones

Robert Edward Jones, Bob, a true southern gentleman, passed from this life July 12, 2017 five days after his 91st birthday. He was born July 7, 1926 on a farm in Desha County, Arkansas to G.C. Jones and Zena Cason Jones as one of seven children. Bob served in the US Navy on a LST #842 in the Pacific theater of World War II. In 2012, he was thrilled to take part in the Honor Flight program to visit the WWII memorial and proudly wore the cap there after. Bob graduated from Mississippi State University in 1949 with a degree in agriculture. A brief stint in teaching and banking was followed by a career in agriculture chemical sales until starting the Unpainted Furniture Store in Searcy in 1985 with his wife. In 1950, Bob met Peggy Douglass in the Mississippi County Court house and proceeded to woo and win the approval of her mother before winning her heart. They married in 1952 when he was granted a pass from TB sanatorium in Booneville, Arkansas. Bob tenderly cared for Peggy in the final 2.5 years of her life following a marriage of 58 years. He served the Lord as Sunday School teacher in Dumas and Searcy and as a lay speaker affiliated with the First United Methodist Church. He is preceded in death by his wife, Peggy, his parents, brothers, Grover Jones and Ted Willis; sister, Pauline Lloyd and son-in-law, Bill Holder. Bob is survived by his children, Melinda Jones Holder, Robin Jones Looney (Jamie), Robert Edward Jones (Dana); his grandchildren, Ruth Ann Looney, Robert Looney, Lee Holder (Kristy), PJ Holder DeBruler (James), Emily Holder Swanson (Travis) and Will Jones; great-granddaughter, Olivia Jane DeBruler; and a host of nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, July 15, 2017, at the 1st United Methodist Church in Searcy. Visitation will be held at 2 p.m. prior to the services.
