Evelyn Viola Tuck, formerly of Tulsa, Okla. entered heaven February, 24th, 2017, at Willard Walker Hospice Home in Fayetteville, Ark. Evelyn was 83 years old. She was born in Lawton, Okla. on February 2, 1934 to Robert and Ella Rainwater, the youngest of three children. Evelyn started school at the young age of 5 years old at St. Mary's Catholic School in Lawton, Okla., because her mother had to work. Public schools would not allow a child to start school at the age of 5. The family moved to a home close to Cameron College, where she lived until she married Vernon Tuck. Evelyn's mother passed away in 1946, when she was 12 years old. She completely depended upon her 18 year old sister Bea after their mother passed away. Aunt Bea, as she was known to EVERYONE, passed away in July, 2016. Evelyn attended Lawton High School and graduated in 1951. While in high school, she was active in the high school band, playing the coronet and twirling with the marching band. At age 13, she began attending a very small Cameron Mission Church, after being visited at her home by friends from the church. The revelation of Jesus was shared with her at that time and she made the most important decision of her 83 years and became a Christ follower. Anyone that knew Evelyn, knew that she was the real deal. She practiced what she preached. And because of her decision, we know without a doubt that Evelyn has started her eternity in heaven, to which there will be no end! Amen Sister Evelyn!! Vernon Tuck came into Evelyn's life when Vernon's family moved into a home, three doors down from her family. She was 10 and Vernon was 12. She met him on the dirt road in front of her house. She stated many times, "1 remember thinking as I stood by; he looked GOOD...not quite as skinny as the other guys and had really nice blond hair". Vernon became best friends with her brother, Bobby. In the beginning, "1 was simply Bobby's little sisted' she said. At age 14, she became more than just "BobbVs little sister". Because they lived so close to each other, Vernon and Evelyn started walking to Cameron Church together on Sunday mornings. They soon became known to all their friends as ''Vernon and Evelyn" and remained as such until this very day. Vernon and his buddies joined the Navy at age 18. Evelyn graduated at age 17 and began a career at the phone company as a telephone operator. At age 18, she surprised Vernon with a visit in Long Beach, California, a very long bus ride from Lawton, Okla. and guess what...Vernon popped the question and they decided to get married then and there! Vernon went AWOL and they drove to Yuma, Arizona and tied the knot. They had their first child, Gregory Alan on June 10, 1954 at the Oak Knoll Naval Hospital in Oakland, Calif. They were all back in Lawton by November, 1954 and Vernon went to work for Public Service Co. of Oklahoma. Three years later, Patti Renee was born April 26th, 1957 at Memorial Hospital in Lawton. It was at this point that Evelyn decided to change her career to that of a full time mom and homemaker, a decision that she said she never regretted. In 1962, they were blessed with their last child, David Richard, born June 18, also at Memorial Hospital in Lawton. Evelyn and Vernon were very active at Eastwood Baptist Church in Tulsa until they made the tough decision to move to Joplin, Mo. after living in Tulsa for 44 years, so that they could be close to their daughter Patti. After Vernon passed away in February, 2014, Evelyn moved from Joplin to Fayetteville, Ark...to Clarity Pointe Memory Care Assisted Living, where she received not only excellent care but also a huge amount of genuine love, devotion and affection from everyone on staff. The following is a quote from Evelyn, written in a note found in her personal belongings, "I have been so very blessed by God...and give Him thanks over and over and over!! It has truly been a wonderful life! THANK YOU GOD!!" Evelyn, Mom, Grandma, Grandma Tuck, Grammy, Auntie, Miss Evie, we'll miss you more than words can express. See you in heaven! Evelyn is survived by daughter Patti, sons Greg and Davey and their families. Evelyn's memorial service will be held at the Memorial Southlawn Chapel, 9350 E. 51st St., Tulsa, OK, on Friday, March 3rd at 2 p.m. Visitation will be at Moore's Southlawn Chapel, 9350 East 51st Street on Thursday, March 2nd from 6-8 p.m. Funeral Arrangements are under the direction of Moore's Funeral Home, Southlawn Chapel, Tulsa, Okla.
