Douglas Edward Henson

Douglas Edward Henson, of Orange Beach, Ala., died Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at the age of 61. He was born in Blytheville, Ark. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Henson and Nell Moore Henson, and daughter, Kathryn Elise Henson. He is survived by his wife, Vicki Yarberry Henson; daughter: Lauren Henson Foster (Will) of Heartland, Texas; sister: Janice Henson Littrell (Steve) of Blytheville, Ark.; brother: Paul Henson of Jacksonville, Ark.; niece: Jennifer Littrell Johnson (John); and grand-nephew: Robert Hopper of Blytheville, Ark. Also survived by sister-in-law Pam Zabicki of Little Rock, Ark.; brothers-in-law: Jimmy Yarberry (Nancy) of Hot Springs Village, Ark., and Eddie Yarberry (Suzanne) of San Diego, Calif.; nieces: Vicki Brattan (Phillip) and family of Clovis, N.M.; Denise Reed (Will) and family of England, Ark.; Jessica Loftus (Josh) and family of Lake Jackson, Texas; Beth Novotny (Jacob) of Elk River, Minn.; Anna and Claire Yarberry of San Diego, Calif.; and nephew: Jackson Yarberry of San Diego, Calif. After attending Arkansas State University (Lambda Chi Alpha) in Jonesboro, Ark., Doug moved to Little Rock in 1979 and worked for Baldwin & Shell Construction Company as an estimator. In 2014, he retired from that company as Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer and member of the Board of Directors. A lifetime member of the American Society of Professional Estimators, Doug was also a past President of the Arkansas Chapter of the Associated General Contractors of America. Doug contributed in many ways to other worthy endeavors both civic and construction-industry related. After retiring and moving to Orange Beach, Doug joined the Treasures of the Isle Mardi Gras Krewe, the Gulf Coast Athletic Club and was extremely proud to be known as "Cabana Boy" to many close friends on the island. He was also very helpful to the Sirens of the Sea Mardi Gras Krewe in their various activities. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Phoenix IX Condominium building. Doug was loved and will be missed by many people for his wonderful sense of humor, quick wit, and his sometimes annoyingly analytical mind! Services will be held on Wednesday, March 15, at 10 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church located at 1196 DeSoto Blvd, Hot Springs Village, Ark., followed by burial at Pine Crest Cemetery in Benton, Ark.
