William W "Bill" Newton

William W. "Bill" Newton, born in Oak Grove, La., January 8, 1939, son of William Percy and Gladys Thompson Newton, departed this life March 15, 2017. Bill is survived by his wife of over 53 years, Marcia Crawford Newton of the home; son, Michael Lynn Newton (Melissa); grandson, Joshua Michael Newton (future granddaughter, Sarah Donahue); great-grandson, Garret Watts all of Mountain Home, Ark.; sisters, Marie Cullever of Houma, La., Jo Ellen Manley (Herbert) of Monroe, La., and Sheila Crosby (Rayburn Eugene) of Oak Grove, La.; sister in law, Johni Newton Jones of Pride, La.; brother-in-law, Thomas Vernon Crawford (Marilyn) and James Wayne Crawford (Jana) both of the Redland Community of Plain Dealing, La.; very special person in his life, Kim Tucker Floyd; many nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; and a host of friends that will miss him dearly. Bill was a member of the Salem First Baptist Church in Salem, Ark.; alderman on the Salem City Council for 21 years; member of Salem #418 Free and Accepted Mason in Salem, Ark.; 32-degree member of Scottish Ridge of Freemasonry in Valley of Little Rock Orient of Arkansas in good standing since 1976; as well as many other organizations during his lifetime. Bill retired from CenturyTel in 1996 after spending 35 years with the company. He and his crews were instrumental in providing rural telephone service throughout Fulton and Sharp counties while working for CenturyTel, now CenturyLink. Services will be held at the Salem First Baptist Church in Salem, Ark., Sunday, March 19, 2017, with visitation beginning at 1 p.m., and Celebration of Life beginning at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salem First Baptist Church or the Salem Cemetery Association, both of Salem, Ark. Arrangements entrusted to Doty Family Funeral Service of Salem, Ark.
