PAUL A. BICKELL, age 86 of Sherwood, Ark. passed away on March 18, 2017. He was born July 10, 1930 in St. Louis County Hospital Missouri. He was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church in NLR. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Mercedes Bickell; brother, Jack Bickell; and youngest daughter, Linda K. Montgomery. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Maylo Bickell; daughter, Claudette Hern; sons, Michael Bickell and David Bickell; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He attended St. Louis University where he was studying to be an electrical engineer. He was also played on their basketball team and ran the ½ mile on their track team. He saw live action at the Battle of Pork Chop Hill in the Korean War where he was wounded in action during trench warfare and is a decorated war veteran. After returning to the States he rejoined the Air Force where he served for 22 years. After retiring from the Air Force he worked in various managerial positions in factories and plants around the Little Rock area. Paul enjoyed bowling, playing pinochle, and family get-togethers. He permanently retired at age 55 and was a great papa to his seven grandchildren. Taking them on trips, giving generous gifts, watching them on their sick days from school, driving for class field trips, spending countless hours with his grandkids in his pool, and just being their papa. He will be missed. Visitation will be held at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 from 5-7 p.m. Funeral service will be held at St. Anne Catholic Church on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at 10 a.m. Burial will take place at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery, North Little Rock at a later date.
