Ruth Lawanda "Wanda" Palmer, 87, of Piggott, Arkansas, passed away March 21, 2017, at the Rector Nursing Home in Rector, Arkansas. She was born on August 20, 1929, in Rector, Arkansas, and she was the daughter of the late William "Bill" Fred and Gladys Lavena (Krick) Scheffler. She was united in marriage to Robert "Bob" Palmer and to this union two children were born. Bob preceded her in death after 67 years of marriage on June 26, 2015. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Harold Scheffler and sister, Ruby Hampton. She is survived by her son, Neil Palmer of Little Rock, Arkansas; daughter, Judy Palmer Earnhart (Allen) of Piggott, Arkansas; two grandchildren: Erin Palmer Welch (Michael) of North Little Rock, Arkansas, and Jared Palmer (Lori) of North Little Rock, Arkansas. Wanda is also survived by one brother, Fred Scheffler of Piggott, Arkansas; two sisters, Elsie Thompson of Piggott, Arkansas, and Bonnie Nelson of Van Buren, Arkansas. Wanda has a host of many nieces and nephews as well as many friends. Wanda was a long time member of the New Hope Baptist Church in Pollard, Arkansas. Wanda worked for the Brown Shoe Company for more than 30 years and she and Bob owned and operated a small farm in Pollard. Wanda loved to work in her large garden while living on the farm raising vegetables especially tomatoes and strawberries. Visitation will be held Thursday, March 23, 2017, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with the funeral immediately following at the Hoggard & Sons Chapel with Bro. Loy Culver officiating. Burial is in Piggott Cemetery in Piggott, Arkansas. Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home of Piggott, Arkansas, is in charge of the arrangements.
