Phyllis Schirmer Nutt, 79, of Benton, passed away March 22, 2017. She was born November 2, 1937, in Nashville, Ark., to the late Earl and Elizabeth Schirmer. Phyllis was a retired school teacher. She taught school for 28½ years for the Benton Public School System. Phyllis loved teaching, and made a difference in each student she taught. She touched so many lives through her teaching days. She loved going to the lake, golfing, but most of all loved having her family all together. Phyllis was a member of P.E.O., and was a Delta Gamma member at the University of Arkansas. Phyllis was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Benton. She sang in the choir and was a founding member of the Wesley Class. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Bud Schirmer. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 58 years, William Robert "Pete" Nutt, Sr.; son, William Robert "Bill" Nutt, Jr. and wife, Vonda; daughter, Catherine "Cathy" Nutt Davis; five grandchildren: Brooks Davis, Tyler Davis and wife, Amanda, Brandon Davis and Mary, Baylee Nutt and Nick, Dylan Nutt; two great-grandchildren, Tony and Rowan; nephew, Phil Schirmer and wife, Kathi; niece, Susan Schirmer. Pallbearers will be Brooks Davis, Tyler Davis, Brandon Davis. Honorary Pallbearer will be Dylan Nutt. Church services will be 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 25, at the First United Methodist Church of Benton, with Pastor Zeke Allen and Rev. Carol Stewart officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Crest Cemetery. Visitation will be at Ashby's, Friday, 6 until 8 p.m. The family would like to thank the caregivers at Mt. Carmel, Elijah Wing, in Hot Springs Village, for all their care and support during this difficult time. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Benton.
