Photo of Waitus "Wade" Hood
Waitus (Wade) Hood, 89, of Furlow, Ark., passed peacefully at home on March 23, 2017. He is preceded in death by his parents Willie and Grace Hood, and his beautiful wife of 62 years, Jewel Ann Hood. He is survived by three sons, Jack, Robert, and Jerry Hood; one daughter, Donna Hood Smith; brother, Dee Witt Hood and sister, Lillian Martin. Wade also had many loving grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family. Wade was a loving father, husband, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend to all. Wade retired after serving 26 years in the United States Air Force. He also retired from 20 years at Remington Arms in Lonoke, Ark. More than 60 years ago, Wade was told by an elderly woman that men could not knit. In a showing of stubbornness that would characterize him for the rest of his life, he did learn to knit and spent the rest of his life knitting slippers, baby blankets and afghans for family, friends and sometimes even almost complete strangers – including the nurses caring for him at the end of his life. A special thank you to Crossroads Hospice of Memphis, Tenn., for their loving care and support. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Funeral Home in North Little Rock on Monday, March 27 and funeral services will be at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills on Tuesday, March 28 at 10 a.m. Wade will be laid to rest next to his loving wife at the Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Memorial Park.
