Hazel Christine Lafferty, 91, of Heber Springs, Ark., flew away to be with her Lord and Savior on March 28, 2017. She was born on May 1, 1925 in Wilburn, Ark, to Oscar and Emma Chandler. She is survived by her son Rick (Nancy) of Bryant, Ark.; grandchildren Lindsay McCoy (Glenn), Leslie Smith (Kyle); and great-grandchildren Harrison McCoy, Isla Pearl Smith, and Jameson Smith, also of Bryant, Ark. She was known as "Granny" to her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. Hazel was preceded in death by her son Larry Lafferty, father- and mother-in-law Tom and Annie Lafferty, as well as her parents, Oscar and Emma Chandler; sister, Ruby Williams; brother, Stanley Chandler; and her husband of 70 years R. B. Lafferty; and her many other family members. She contributed to the war effort by serving as a "Rosie the Riveter" in Kansas. Hazel also worked as a shoe saleswoman at Kempners, for the Department of Revenue Services, as well as helping her husband R.B. with buying, remodeling, and selling houses to help needy families. She and her husband were faithful members of First General Baptist Connection Church. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Hazel had a passion for cooking and baking, which she shared with all the people she loved. The family would like to thank all doctors and staff at Baptist Hospital, Heber Springs, and Little Rock locations. Specifically her longtime cardiologist and friend Dr. Donald Mecham, Dr. Frank Bivins, the staff at Saline Memorial Hospital, Doctor Deborah Quade, CNAs, and nurses. The wonderful caring staff at Alcoa Pines Nursing and Rehab that became like an extended family, and the staff of Arkansas Hospice. Visitation will be held at First General Baptist Connection Church in Heber Springs, on Saturday, April 1, 9-10:15 a.m. The funeral service will follow at 10:30 a.m. at the church. Reverend Mike Lindley will be officiating. Interment will follow in the Heber Springs Cemetery. www.olmstead.cc.
