Alvin Combs

Alvin Earnest Combs, 62, of West Fork, Ark., left this world peacefully, surrounded by a devoted, adoring family on the afternoon of May 13. He was born on May 18th, 1954 in Carmel, California to Earnest Alvin and Barbara Combs. Alvin was a career maintenance man who had a reputation for being able to fix anything, solve any problem, and to do so in a way that made it almost impossible to undo his work. He had incredible strength. He was equally adept mentally. A voracious reader, he was well known for having a sharp tongue and a razor wit. He had a way of either presenting an airtight argument in a concise, lucid manner that any layperson could understand, or constructing a withering, biting critique of something or someone without resorting to base insults or foul language. His greatest achievement, however, was his family. Married to Wynola Combs for 42 years, he was a loving, caring husband who would let no harm befall his wife. As a father, he raised his daughter, Elaine Combs Chaney, to be a magnificent, strong willed woman who is not afraid to take on the world in defense of those she loves. To everyone else he knew, he was always there to help unselfishly. He always had a keen sense of humor, and was a wonderful storyteller who had a tale for any occasion. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Earnestine Combs, and his sister & partner in crime Georgia Baker. He is survived by his wife and daughter, his sister, Linnie Hensley, two grandchildren, Darian and Aidan, and too many others to mention who are deeply grateful to have been a part of his life. An informal memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 18th at 6 p.m. at the West Fork Community Center. The family asks that no flowers be given. Condolence: www.eptingfuneralhome.webs.com.
