James L. Bevans, D.D.S., M.S., 78, of Little Rock, passed away May 15, 2017. He was born January 18, 1939 in Little Rock to James and Opal Godsey Bevans. He received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 1965 from the University of Tennessee at Memphis, School of Dentistry, where he also completed his residency in 1968. He then began his practice of pediatric dentistry in Little Rock, where he felt "privileged to treat children, and to make a difference in their lives at a young age." He was an active member of the American Dental Association, American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, American Orthodontic Society and Arkansas State Dental Association. Dr. Bevans was one of the first Pediatric Dentists in Arkansas to accept ARKids into his practice in the early 70's, at a time when it was difficult to find a dental office that would do so. He did this without hesitation, because he felt strongly that all children of Arkansas deserved his specialized care. In fact, Dr. Bevans never turned away a patient that was experiencing pain. During his free time, he enjoyed traveling, hunting and raising horses. Among his most favorite places to visit were Africa, New Zealand and Argentina. He also loved to take his two grandsons hunting and to Razorback games to support their favorite team. Preceded in death by his parents, he is survived by his sisters, Lavonne Ferguson and Gail Carver; sons, David Bevans and Jon Bevans; grandsons, Parker Bevans and Logan Bevans; and a host of nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his wife, Jennifer Bevans; stepdaughters, Melissa Osigian (Pat) and Stephanie Newcomb (Bradley); and grandchildren, Madeline, Patrick, Noah, Jude and Silas. Visitation will be Saturday, May 20, beginning at 1 p.m., followed by the service at 3 p.m., both at Fellowship Bible Church, followed by burial at Mulberry Cemetery in England, Arkansas. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Arkansas Children's Hospital, 1 Children's Way, Little Rock, Ark. 72202. Arrangements by Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct., (501) 224-2200. Dr. Bevans' online guestbook may be signed at www.littlerockfuneralhome.com.
