Clayta Jane Carver Scott of Hot Springs peacefully left for heaven on Thursday, May 25, 2017. She is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, John Penn (Penny) Scott, grandson, Winston Penn Wardlaw, her parents, Frances and Richard Carver and her brothers, Bill, Robert and Mike Carver. She is survived by her sons, Michael Penn Scott (Zada) and Stephen Allen Scott (Mary Jo), her daughter, Mary Frances (Susie) Scott Wardlaw (David), granddaughter, Sarah Anna-Frances Scott Kathmann (Paul), grandsons, Scott David Wardlaw, Robert Wilson Wardlaw, John Clay Scott and Michael Collins Scott, great-grandchildren, Penn Joseph Kathmann and Lula Mae Kathmann, and her brothers, Rick, David and Steve Carver. Clayta was born in Windsor, Missouri on December 27, 1929 and grew up in Mena with her six younger brothers. After graduating from Mena High School Clayta attended Henderson State Teachers College (Henderson State University) where she met Penny. Clayta and Penny were married in 1950 and moved to Hobbs, New Mexico where their children were born. In 1956 the family moved to Crossett where Penny joined his brother Earl at Scott's LP Gas Company which later became Scott's Gas and Oil, Inc. Upon retirement Clayta and Penny moved to Hot Springs where they were members of First United Methodist Church. Their years at Henderson and in Hobbs, Crossett and Hot Springs were filled with great friendships and memories. Clayta was an extraordinary wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was a loyal Razorback fan and loved the game of golf. She loved unconditionally and lived a life of faith, grace, gratitude and courage. The family would like to express their gratitude to a God-sent loving group of friends who cared for her: Lynn Bat-Abba, Yvette Jones, Denise Millard, Marty Millard, Logan Paulette, Rose Poag, Cyndi Ramthun, Sara Stone and Sheila Womack. Thanks also to Elijah, Jacob and Gunnar for bringing so much joy into her life. A memorial service is planned for Saturday, June 3, at 2 p.m. at Mt. Holly Cemetery in Little Rock. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Winston Penn Wardlaw Memorial Scholarship Fund at Catholic High School for Boys, 6300 Father Tribou Street, Little Rock, Ark. 72205 or to the charity of your choice.
