Darrell Eugene Vinson

Darrell Eugene Vinson went to fly with the angels on Nov. 20, 2017, at the V.A. Medical Center of the Ozarks in Fayetteville, Ark. He was born on July 3, 1926, in Tishomingo, Okla. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Earl and Elta Mae Vinson; a grandson, Shane E. Bowden; a great-grandson, Fisher Ray Vinson; and a great-granddaughter, Parker Raye Vinson. Darrell is survived in death by his wife, Charlotte E. Vinson; two sons, Robert L. Vinson and wife, Sondra and Ronald G. Vinson and wife, Brenda; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren. He has three brothers, Don Vinson and wife, Lucy, Loyd Vinson and wife, Mary and Bill Vinson and wife, Loretta; three sisters, Anna Ruth Richards and husband, Leroy, Shirley Pewthers and husband, Gerald and Nita Crabb and husband, Jim. He had numerous nieces and nephews; in-laws and out-laws that he loved dearly. Darrell served in the U.S. Navy from August 1943 until March 1946. He was assigned as a gunner on a Merchant Marine ship in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans to help protect supply freighters from attack against enemy submarines. He started life in Oklahoma, married and worked as an auto mechanic, moved to Missouri and became a farmer and also worked as a carpenter. Several years later, moved to Arkansas to retire. One of his greatest joys was watching his grandchildren play softball and basketball. He will be greatly missed by his family, who truly loved and cherished him. Our hearts will always remember. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2017, at Center Street Church of Christ. Interment will follow in the Fayetteville National Cemetery under the direction of Beard's Chapel.
