Kathryn "Kappy" Sayle Griffin

Kathryn "Kappy" Sayle Griffin, 90 of Friendswood, Texas, formerly of El Dorado, Ark., died on September 25, 2017, which would have been her husband's 99th birthday, at Houston Methodist St. John's Hospital in Clear Lake City, Texas. following a brief illness. She was born on March 24, 1927 in Little Rock, Ark. Kappy was the daughter of Edwin H. Sayle and Ada Allen Sayle and the great great-granddaughter of William E. Woodruff the founder of the Arkansas Gazette. Kappy was a graduate of Little Rock High School and Little Rock Junior College, and received a BA from the University of Arkansas. She was an over 50 year member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority. She was a member of The First United Methodist Church of El Dorado. She was a collector of antique dolls, and enjoyed crossword puzzles, old movies, and Jeopardy. She was a treasure trove of family history and neighborhood advice. At one time she was taking an exercise class and soon stopped going and when she was asked why she stopped going, she replied she had outlived everyone, including the younger teacher. As a young girl she and a friend crossed the Arkansas River on the railroad bridge, frightened she took an alternative route home, arriving after her friend, to everyone's relief. Kappy was preceded in death by her parents; her grandmother Hallie Jabine Sayle; a sister, Mary Allen Beckenholdt and her husband of 59 years, Thomas L. "Fuzzy" Griffin. Survivors are a son, Thomas Lee Griffin Jr. of Friendswood, Texas. Also her nephews, Charles S. Ford of Portland, Ore., and Richard A. Ford of Champaign, Ill. Graveside services at Woodlawn Cemetery will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday October 4, 2017 with Rev. Keith Dodson officiating under the direction of Young's Funeral Directors.
