Edwin McCoy "Spriggs" Nutt, 79, passed away October 2, 2017 in Hot Springs, Arkansas. He was born in Camden, Arkansas, on March 25, 1938. Spriggs was preceded in death by his wife of 34 years, Judy Tidwell Nutt; his parents, Catherine Ella and SW "Gyp" Treadwell, and John McCoy Nutt; and brother, Morgan Dixon Treadwell. He is survived by his son, Michael Glenn Dobbins (Neelie); daughter, Glynna Kay Dobbins Fisher (Will); sisters, Sue Nutt Smith (Greg) and Alicia Nutt McCoy (Shawn); step-mother, Ida Mae Nutt; and sister-in-law, Bettie Treadwell. He had 10 grandchildren, including Skylar McCullough who was like a son to him, and two step-children, Tippi McCullough, Bret McCullough, multiple nieces and nephews, and his loving dog Sparky. Spriggs attended high school in Carthage, Ark. He graduated from Henderson State University in 1960 where he played basketball, was voted class favorite and served as senior class president. Spriggs worked as a coach at Henderson State while obtaining his MSE in Counseling in 1968. He went on to a teaching, coaching and counseling career at various schools throughout the state. One of his proudest moments was leading the Carthage Blue Devils basketball team to win the 1985 State Championship. Coach Nutt touched the lives of countless athletes and students during his 43-year career. Spriggs enjoyed outdoor activities, particularly fishing, hunting and golf. He lived most of his life on Lake Hamilton in Hot Springs and was known to barefoot water ski behind a fishing boat. Spriggs never met a stranger and will be remembered always for his positive, glass-half-full outlook on life and known as the life of the party. He will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m., Friday, October 6, 2017 in the Mount Tabor Cemetery with Bro. J.B. Evans officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Hot Springs. Honorary pallbearers will be Don Robinson, Shane Scott, Tyson Treadwell, Skylar McCullough, Steve Sheffield, Joe Hammett, Danny Hobbs, Jason Clements and John Heard.
