Guy Lindsey Proctor Sr.

Mr. Guy Lindsey Proctor Sr., age 87, of Jonesboro, formerly of Forrest City, died Sunday, October 15, 2017, at the Flo & Phil Hospice Home in Jonesboro. He had been in poor health for the past two years. Mr. Proctor was born May 22, 1930, in Caldwell, and was the son of Guy E. Proctor and Claudia Lindsey Proctor. He lived in Forrest City until moving to Jonesboro in 2006. He was a past member of First Baptist Church in Forrest City and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Jonesboro. Mr. Proctor was a major agri-business entrepreneur in East Arkansas for several decades, founding Proctor's Seed and Feed, Inc. in Forrest City in his early 20's and active in the development of Eastern Arkansas for many years. Starting Proctor's Seed and Feed while in his early 20's, the company became a seed and grain processing and marketing company, with fertilizer and chemical plants. By the mid 1980s, it became one the largest privately owned businesses of its type in the state. Recognized at his retirement from his company in the late 1990s by the Arkansas State Seed Dealers Association for his pioneering contributions to the seed industry in Arkansas. Mr. Proctor continued working as a development and operating consultant to Hamlin Seed Company, and Erwin-Keith partnership, while also pursuing an agri/farm real estate investment company. Mr. Proctor actively served the state, county, and community through various elected and civic roles. Appointed by then Governor Dale Bumpers to spearhead the founding of East Arkansas Community College in the early days of the community college movement in the state, he went on to serve as President and member of that board for many years. He also served for many terms on the St. Francis County Quorum Court and the Forrest City City Council. Mr. Proctor married Lillie Keathley in 1952, and she survives him along with two sons; Guy Lindsey Proctor Jr. of Olive Branch, Mississippi, and David Keathley Proctor of Memphis, one daughter, Mary Caroline Proctor of Fayetteville, two grandchildren; Allison Proctor Thomas and Guy Lindsey Proctor III, and two great-grandchildren; Bailey Thomas and Dillon Thomas. He had one daughter, Patricia Kay Proctor, one sister, Sally Proctor Rowe, who preceded him in death. Services for Mr. Proctor will be held at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, 2 p.m., Thursday, with burial in Forrest Park Cemetery.
