Barney Coleman Phillips Jr., age 74, of Bryant; went to be with his Lord on Sept. 2, 2017. He was born in Paris, Ark., on March 18, 1943 to the late Barney and Bonnie (Barham) Phillips. Barney graduated from Paris High School where he excelled in all sports. He attended Arkansas Tech where he played football and ran track. At Arkansas Tech he met the love of his life, Carolyn Latimer Phillips, and they were married for 53 years. Barney retired from the Arkansas State Police as a Lieutenant after 32 years of service. He helped organize and was the first working Chief of the Shannon Hills Fire Department. He retired from the Bryant Volunteer Fire Department. Barney enjoyed hunting & fishing and took pride in teaching & sharing these activities with his grandsons. He was a member of Bryant First United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bob Phillips; step-mother, Elba Phillips and grandson, Jeffrey Trusty. Barney is survived by his wife; two daughters, Amanda Jolly (Rodney) and Traci Trusty (Tim); his beloved grandsons, Caleb Perry (Amber), Chad Jolly (Natalie Dennie), Jackson Trusty and Wyatt Trusty; step-grandson, Kayson Moss; great-grandson, Cole Perry; as well as nephews, nieces and many friends. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6 at Ashby Funeral Home. A celebration of Barney's Life will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 7 at Bryant First United Methodist Church.
