Dan Hendricks of Springdale, age 84, passed away on Tuesday evening September 12, 2017. He was born December 18, 1932 in Owasso, Oklahoma to Bertha Ann Krallman Hendricks and Howard Hendricks. Dan along with his mother, brothers, and stepfather (Carter Plemons) later moved to Arkansas and Dan attended school at Frisco Springs and Hickory Creek. He graduated in 1950 from Springdale High School where he was a three-sport letterman. Further education included a year each in Coffeyville, Kansas and Lamar, Colorado on football scholarships before being drafted by the Army in 1953. He completed his education at the University of Maryland under the "bootstrap" program while in the U. S. Military with a degree in Political Science. Dan was in the military from 1953 to 1973 serving during the Korean and Vietnam wars. During his service, he attended many schools including the Anti-aircraft Artillery and Guided Missile School, the Special Warfare School, and the Command and General Staff College. Dan was a Green Beret serving with the elite Special Forces in combat during two tours in Vietnam and retiring with the rank of Major. During his military career, he received numerous awards and citations including multiple awards of the Bronze Star for Valor and the Air Medal for Heroism. Following retirement from the military, Dan entered the field of Banking where he managed lending and credit functions. He retired from banking after 17 years but found himself ending his retirement in 2004 to help with the start-up of Signature Bank of Arkansas where he remained until again retiring in 2011. Dan had been in declining health for some time primarily due to the effects of Agent Orange exposure while in Vietnam. He is survived by Marilyn, his wife of 29 1/2 years, and his daughter, Karen Cordell and husband Mike of Springdale along with Marilyn's son, Barry Guinn and Barry's son, Greysen, of Madison, Wis. Also surviving Dan is his daughter, Sharon Perry and husband Mack of Springdale, along with two grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. He is further survived by two brothers - his twin brother, Don of Fayetteville and Bert of Springdale. Dan was predeceased by his son, Terry Hal Hendricks, in 1983. Visitation will be Friday, September 15, 2017 at 10 am at Sisco Funeral Chapel of Springdale with the service beginning at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at the Fayetteville National Cemetery at 1pm with military honors.
