DOROTHY REED THOMPSON of Little Rock was born Feb. 25, 1924, in Emmet, Ark., to John and Lizzie Reed. She departed from a blessed life on Sept. 12, 2017. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, all six siblings, and her husband of 66 years, Willie Thompson. Dorothy graduated from Yeager High School in Hope, Ark. She earned a Bachelor's Degree in Home Economics from AM&N College (now UAPB). She later earned a Master's Degree in Education from the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville. Her professional teaching career spanned 38 years and included teaching High School home economics and later teaching at the elementary school level. Dorothy thoroughly enjoyed working with elementary aged children and held a special fondness for her fourth grade students. She retired from the Pulaski County Special School District. Dorothy was a faithful member of Mt. Nebo AME Church in College Station, Ark., for more than 60 years. She served in many capacities - Sunday School teacher, Missionary Society leader, Stewardess Board President and a willing volunteer. She was a talented seamstress and excellent homemaker. Her joy experiences derived from being a wife and mother, working in her yard, cooking and especially spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by two daughters, Cheryl Thompson and Pamela Croston of North Little Rock, Ark.,, three grandchildren, Jonathan Jones and Amanda Jones of New York, N.Y., and Ashley Newman [Larry] of North Little Rock, Ark., many nieces, nephews and friends. Home going Celebration will be Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2017, 11 a.m., at Mt. Nebo AME Church, 4904 Frazier Pike, College Station. Family Hour will be Tuesday, Sept. 19, 6-7 p.m., at Ruffin and Jarrett Funeral Home, 1200 Chester St., Little Rock, Ark. (501) 372-1305.
