DAVID RAY GADDIS of Maumelle, Ark., age 95, died at home, on Monday, April 9, 2018, under the care of Hospice Home Care. He was born on September 30, 1922, at Hillman, Ark., before the family moved to a farm outside of Dardanelle in 1927. He married Jeanie Kennedy on June 7, 1942, and they were married for 68 years before her death in 2010. He was also preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and two sisters. Survivors include three children: Larry Gaddis (Linda) of Little Rock, Blaine Gaddis of Little Rock, Kim Gaddis Wadley (Buddy) of Springfield, Ark.; two grandchildren, Dr. Emily Gaddis Kocurek (Jared) of Little Rock, and R. Scott Gaddis of Little Rock; one great-grandson, Judah David Kocurek of Little Rock; one sister-in-law, Carol Kennedy Thacker of Maumelle; and many nieces and nephews. David retired from the Little Rock District Corps of Engineers as Comptroller in 1978. Highlights of his 37 year career there included financial oversight of Nimrod, Bull Shoals, Norfork, and Table Rock Dams, Little Rock and Blytheville Air Force Bases, and the Arkansas River Navigation System. He is a veteran of WWII, during which he achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. He continued to serve in the Army Reserve for a number of years afterwards. David was a faithful member of Geyer Springs First Baptist Church for 58 years, serving as a Deacon, Homebound Ministry leader, and Sunday School teacher until shortly before his death. The family expresses gratitude for the compassionate assistance provided by Hospice Home Care. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, April 12 at 2 p.m. at Cornwell Chapel, Dardanelle, Ark. Burial will follow at New Hope Cemetery, Dardanelle. Visitation will precede the service at the Chapel beginning at 1 p.m. Arrangements by Little Rock Funeral Home, 501-224-2200, and Cornwell Funeral Home of Dardanelle.
