Verna Mae Gaither

Verna Mae Gaither was granted her angel wings and welcomed home by her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, April 17th, 2018 in Bryant, Ark. She was 108 years old. Verna Gaither was born to John Preston and Katie Kimberling Sword on September 21st, 1909 in Guthrie, Oklahoma. In the 1920s, Verna and her family traveled from Guthrie, Okla., to Buckville, Ark., in a covered wagon. A few years later, her father, sick with dropsy and following doctor's orders, moved his family to McFadden Springs, Ark., to drink and help bottle the mountain spring water. Verna was known for her Godly faith, gardening, card games, paper dolls, dominos, and crossword puzzles. She is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Edward Leo Gaither, her parents, two brothers, John Morgan and Sherman, three sisters, Edna Lou, Ruby, and Pearl, two daughters- Gwendolyn Buchanan, Sondra Tyler and a grandson, Randy Buchanan. Verna is survived by two sons, Terry Gaither (Cindy), Gary Gaither (Mary), a son-in-law, James Buchanan, eight grandchildren, fifteen great- grandchildren and ten great, great grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Alexander, Ark., on Tuesday, April 24th at 10:00 am. A reception will be held immediately following the funeral at 402 Wanda Lane in Benton, Ark., 72015 Verna was a member of Geyer Springs Baptist Church for 66 years.
