Dixie Dean Brannon Rothenberger, age 82, of Elkins went home to be with the Lord on February 18, 2018, at Willard Walker Hospice House. She was born November 7, 1935, in the Brannon Mountain Community, AR, to the late Dick and Lena Brannon. She attended and graduated from Saint Paul Schools. She was a stay-at-home mom until she went to work at Elkins Public Schools in the cafeteria. She was a special cook to many students for 25 years when she retired to care for her mother. She was a member of Living Faith Church in Fayetteville for 39 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herschel Wayne Rothenberger, of almost 23 years; and a sister, Daisy Dockery. She was widowed at 42 years old and continued to maintain a working farm with the help of her children and grandchildren until about 12 years ago. Dixie was a lover of Jesus, gospel music, gardening, cooking, reading, cattle, her family and her church. She was a caregiver to many, enjoyed sending cards, and cooking good food. She was a fighter; she beat breast cancer, survived a head-on crash, and stroke. Her grandchildren enjoyed pranks with her, learning how to cook her recipes, and doing chores on the farm. She was loved and adored by many. Survivors include her daughter, Karen Y. Deaton and her husband Johnny of Goshen; her son, Lyndl W. Rothenberger and his wife Andrea of Springdale; three grandchildren, Brian Deaton and his wife Stephanie of Prairie Grove, Devin Deaton and his wife StephFaye of Prairie Grove, Cassie Hampton and her husband Brandon of Fayetteville; five great-grandchildren, Kaylisa, Leah, Caleb, Braylon, and Caynan; two sisters and one brother, Doris and Sonny Davis of Round Mountain, Carol Wood of Goshen, and Larry Brannon of Elkins; along with 6 nieces and nephews and many more family and friends. Pallbearers will be Rodney and Christopher Dockery; Michael, Kevin and Shawn Brannon; and David Longley. Visitation will be 6 p.m. – 8 pm Tuesday February 20, 2018 at Moore's Chapel. Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Living Faith Church with burial following at Brannon Mountain Cemetery under the direction of Moore's Chapel.
