Naomi Elizabeth (Gray) May

NAOMI ELIZABETH (GRAY) MAY, 88, died Wednesday February 21, at West Markham Sub Acute and Rehabilitation Center in Little Rock following a brief illness. Naomi (known as "Nonny" by her friends) was born July 2 1929 in Memphis to Dr. Horace and Clarice (Bruner) Gray. After graduating from St. Mary's Episcopal School in 1946, Naomi attended the University of Arkansas and the University of Iowa where she received her BA in English literature in 1951. Naomi was married to Ronald A May in 1950, and they settled in Little Rock in 1957 when he joined the law firm of Wright, Lindsey & Jennings. After her divorce in 1973, Naomi started a small business called "Plants by Appointment" which installed and maintained indoor landscaping in many central Arkansas offices and businesses during the 1970's and ‘80's. In 1982 she moved to Scott and opened "New Leaf Greenhouses" a commercial nursery and herb and flower farm. Naomi loved gardening and flower arranging and was an active member of the Herb Society. She attended Trinity Episcopal Church and delivered the altar flowers to shut-ins for many years. Ever the storyteller, Naomi was happiest hosting visitors at her historic home and gardens in Scott, Ark. Naomi is survived by her sister, Sue Burgess of Atlanta; her 4 children--Sarah Leflar (Robert) of Fayetteville, Jonathan May (Jane) of Boyce Louisiana, Andy May (Missy Morris) of Los Angeles, and Rachel May (Doug Dusini) of Tampa; 8 grandchildren-- David Slade (Kelly) of Little Rock, Hannah May (Erin English) of Los Angeles, Hank May of Los Angeles, Jean Louise May of Boyce La., Nicolas Lizarazo of Las Vegas, Caroline May of Boston, Sarah Helen Leflar, of Portland Ore., and Gwen Lizarazo of Tampa; and 2 great grandchildren, Jack and Jane Slade of Little Rock.
