Our father, Austin R. Gillert, on February 22, 2018, went to be with his lord and savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, at the age of 97. Austin was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Louise, (German emigrants, circa 1920), two brothers, Bill and Henry, (both killed in WWII fighting for the US), two other brothers, Rheinhart and Ernest, one sister, Leana, his wife Mary France, and his oldest son, Rick Gillert. He is survived by two sons, Ron (Connie) and Randy (Leslie), one daughter, Glenda (Jerry), daughter-in-law, Lisa Gillert, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. While serving in WWII, Austin was a Technical Sergeant with a First Tactical Air Force P-47 Thunderbold Unit. He received an ETO Ribbon with 2 battle stars for the air offensive of the European and Normandy campaigns. He was recommended for the Soldiers Award for detecting an activated bomb and removed it far from harm to people and planes. His unit received a commendation letter from General Patton. He worked for Superior Spring Company, North Little Rock, Arkansas for thirty years as a front end mechanic until his retirement in 1985. A dedicated Christian, he was a member and Deacon of Temple Baptist Church, Little Rock, Arkansas where he dedicated many hours assisting the youth of the community. Services will be Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at 1 p.m. at Roller Drummond Funeral Home, Little Rock, Arkansas. Visitation will immediately precede the funeral at 12 noon.
