James Robinson, 80, of Hamburg, died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2017. Mr. Robinson was a native of Freer, Texas; a resident of Hamburg for over 40 years and a former resident of Malvern, Portland, Ore., and Houston, Texas. He attended Henderson College and was a veteran of the United States Army. Mr. Robinson worked for the Arkansas State Police from 1968 until 1973, the Georgia-Pacific Corporation for 10 years in Crossett, Portland, Ore., and Houston, Texas and he served as the Ashley County Sheriff for 10 years. He enjoyed fishing and loved spending time and visiting with people. He is preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Lavada Wallace Robinson, a brother, Paul Robinson and a sister, Delphia McDermott. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sarah Varnell Robinson; a daughter, LouAnne Richardson both of Hamburg; a son, Jimmy Robinson and wife, Kaye, of Crossett; a brother, Curtis Robinson and wife, Melba, of Friendship; three grandchildren, Brandon Murphy and wife, Lauren, Aaron Murphy and Kerra Leigh Powell and Michelle MacCloskey; four step-grandchildren, Brad McGehee and wife, Kelley, Lance McGhee and wife, Vanessa, April Spence and husband, Justin, and Craig Handley and wife, Laura, and a very special friend, Jayda Beth Knight. Funeral service: 2 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2018 at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Bobby Pennington and David Oliver officiating. Burial will be in the Hamburg Cemetery.
